The LDH studio - Skin Testing Policy

Last Update: May 2026

At The LDH Studio, your safety and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. To protect you and comply with industry standards, insurance requirements, and colour manufacturer guidelines, we have a strict Skin Testing Policy for all colour services.

Why Skin Testing Is Essential

Skin testing (also known as a patch test) helps identify potential allergic reactions to hair colour products. Reactions can develop at any time — even if you’ve coloured your hair before — which is why testing is a vital step in ensuring your comfort and safety.

When a Skin Test Is Required

A skin test must be carried out:

  • At least 48 hours before any colour service
  • If you are a new client
  • If you are an existing client trying a new brand or type of colour
  • If it has been 6 months or more since your last colour appointment with us
  • If you have experienced recent illness, medical changes, or new allergies
  • After pregnancy, certain medications, or significant health changes

We cannot legally or safely perform colour services without a valid skin test.

What to Expect During the Test

Your stylist will apply a small amount of colour product behind your ear or on your forearm.
The test is quick, simple, and takes just a few minutes.

You should leave the test area untouched for 48 hours and monitor for any changes such as:

  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Swelling
  • Burning
  • Rash or irritation

If you notice anything unusual, please contact us immediately and do not proceed with your colour appointment.

Expired or Missing Skin Tests

If a valid skin test has not been completed:

  • Your appointment will need to be rearranged, or
  • We can offer an alternative non-colour service instead

This is for your safety and is strictly non-negotiable.

When We Cannot Carry Out a Colour Service

We are unable to perform colour services if:

  • The skin test shows a reaction
  • You decline or cannot complete the test
  • You arrive for your appointment without a valid 48-hour test
  • You have active scalp irritation, open wounds, or infections

Your health always comes first.

Additional Notes

  • Home patch tests or tests done at other salons cannot be accepted.
  • Skin tests must be carried out in person at The LDH Studio.
  • We follow manufacturer instructions and industry guidelines for all colour services.
